Oh me! Oh life! of the questions of these recurring,
Of the endless trains of the faithless, of cities fill’d with the foolish,
Of myself forever reproaching myself, (for who more foolish than I, and who more faithless?)
Of eyes that vainly crave the light, of the objects mean, of the struggle ever renew’d,
Of the poor results of all, of the plodding and sordid crowds I see around me,
Of the empty and useless years of the rest, with the rest me intertwined,
The question, O me! so sad, recurring—What good amid these, O me, O life?
That you are here—that life exists and identity,
That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.

Eeeeee these two
This is one of my favourite scenes between Lucas and Ros. Lucas is overwhelmed by emotion because of Connie’s revelation and her subsequent death and not afraid to show this emotion in front of Ros, because he trusts that she will not demean him or make fun of him. And Ros is very gentle with him, aware of the depth of emotion Lucas is feeling. It’s nice to see how much they trust and rely on each other.
Lucas North: Can’t think why Nightingale haven’t tried to recruit you. Ros Myers: It’s been gnawing away at me as well. Lucas North: I bet it has. Let’s see what Lindemann has to do with all this. *Looks at Ros* Ros Myers: You going in, then? Lucas North: *Frowns at Ros as he leaves* Ros Myers: *Watches him leave with an sly grin*
-Ros & Lucas, Spooks, Ep. 8.8
Love this little exchange between them and everything that happens after it. I so wished that Ros had survived that explosion, I think season 9 would’ve been sooo interesting for these two.
I think it was this part, right here that made me ship JackxElsa with maybe a little Cole thrown in. Like, her dude has come to rescue her but she’s resisting him, desperately turning and reaching for Jack, because she’s that concerned about what’s going to happen to him/what he’s going to do.
I think that’s she’s really come to care for him as a friend, but I feel like she’s surprised by the spark that there is between the two of them, that was there right from the moment she walked into his office.
When he tells her she looks lovely in his hospital room she looks definitely surprised but pleased as well, more than simply flattered. I think the fact that he went out on a limb for her, nearly got himself killed for her after just meeting her really impressed her and touched her. It had been a long time since someone had done something like that for her without asking for anything in return.
I expect after Cole’s death the two of them find it very hard to stay away from each other, both to share in their grief but also to test out this new-found bond they have, and, let’s be real, neither of them really has anyone else.
I’m *so* gonna write a fic, but I’m just not in writing mode right now. This pair has me in its grips though, I find them so fascinating.
